Privacy & Website Policies

Plain-language answers about what information this website collects, how it's used and protected, and your rights — because trust shouldn't start only when therapy does.

Effective date: July 3, 2026 · Applies to: therapyavenue.ca, operated by Krystal Meek, Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO), Therapy Avenue, 10 Four Seasons Place, Etobicoke, ON M9B 6H7

The short version

This website collects only what you choose to give it — your name and contact details when you send a message or join the workshop interest list. That information is used solely to respond to you or send you the updates you asked for. It is never sold, rented, or shared for marketing. Your therapy itself is protected by much stricter health-privacy rules, which are explained to every client at intake.

What this policy covers

This policy covers the website only. If you become a client, your clinical information (session notes, health history, records) is governed by Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). You'll receive and discuss a detailed consent and privacy document before therapy begins — and you're always welcome to ask questions about it.

What this website collects

Contact form: your name, the email or phone number you provide, and your message.

Workshop & retreat interest list: your name, email address, which workshop or retreat interests you, and anything you optionally share.

Please don't include sensitive personal or health details in either form. Standard email and web forms are not a secure channel for health information. A simple "I'd like to talk" is all that's ever needed — details can wait for a private conversation.

Automatically: this site does not use advertising trackers, marketing cookies, or social media pixels. Like nearly all websites, the hosting provider records routine technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security purposes.

How your information is used

  • To respond when you reach out
  • To send workshop and retreat updates you specifically requested — this is express consent under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and every update includes a way to unsubscribe. Unsubscribing is always honoured promptly.
  • For no other purpose. Your information is never sold, rented, traded, or used for third-party advertising.

Who else touches your data (third-party services)

  • Netlify (website hosting and form processing) — form submissions are stored securely in the site's hosting dashboard; data may be processed on servers outside Canada
  • Owl Practice (session booking) — a Canadian practice-management platform built for health providers; bookings you make there are governed by its own privacy policy
  • Google Fonts (typefaces) and Google Maps (the map on the contact page) — your browser requests these from Google when loading the relevant pages, which involves Google's own data practices

Each provider was chosen with privacy in mind, but no internet service is perfect — which is one more reason to keep sensitive details out of web forms.

How long information is kept

Only as long as it serves the purpose you gave it for: inquiries are kept as long as needed to respond and follow up, and interest-list entries are kept until the event has passed or you unsubscribe, whichever comes first. You may request deletion at any time (see Your Rights).

Security

This site is served entirely over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Reasonable safeguards are in place for any information you submit. That said, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed — a limitation every honest website must acknowledge.

About confidentiality in therapy

Therapy is confidential, and that confidentiality has specific legal limits (for example, risk of serious harm to yourself or others, a child in need of protection, or a court order). These limits are explained fully, in person, before therapy begins — never in fine print.

Important disclaimers

This website is information, not therapy. Everything on this site is general educational content. It is not psychotherapy, medical advice, or legal advice, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional who knows your situation. Visiting this site, reading its pages, or submitting a form does not create a therapist–client relationship.

If you are in crisis, please do not wait for a reply through this website: call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline, 24/7 across Canada), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.

Intellectual property: all content, images, branding, and animations on this site are © Krystal Meek / Therapy Avenue and may not be reproduced without written permission.

Limitation of liability: this website is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, Therapy Avenue and Krystal Meek are not liable for losses arising from the use of, or reliance on, this website or its content.

Your rights

You may, at any time:

  • Ask what information this site holds about you
  • Correct it if it's wrong
  • Withdraw consent and unsubscribe from updates
  • Request deletion of your information

Just email or call using the details on the contact page — requests are answered promptly and without friction.

If you have a privacy concern I haven't resolved, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, for health-information matters, the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. Concerns about professional conduct may be directed to the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated effective date. Significant changes affecting the interest list will be communicated by email.
